Press release: Katherine Milliken appointed Chair to help steer Support Through Court into the future
Support Through Court, previously known as the Personal Support Unit, a charity supporting people going through civil and family court without representation, is pleased to have appointed a new Chair of the Board. From this month, Katherine Milliken will take on the role.
Katherine is the Chief Operating Officer of Macfarlanes, a position she has held since May 2022. She trained to become a solicitor at a magic circle firm before spending ten years in-house with international automotive retailer and distributor Inchcape plc, where she was latterly General Counsel. Katherine brings valuable governance and leadership experience, having served as a trustee, including as Vice Chair, at organisations in the education and arts sectors.
Caroline Artis stepped down from the Board at the end of May. Caroline, who was previously a partner at EY and part of the UK leadership team, has supported Support Through Court through a critical time for the charity. Her term saw the organisation launch a national helpline, introduce a remote service, and navigate a difficult fundraising climate.
Incoming Chair Katherine says: “Support Through Court offers vital help to people at one of the most difficult moments in their lives, navigating the legal system without a lawyer. I’m honoured to support this essential work and to help guide the charity through its next chapter. We face significant challenges, but also real opportunities to innovate, grow, and strengthen our impact.”
Support Through Court’s CEO, Emma Taylor, says: “We are thrilled to welcome Katherine as our new Chair. She brings with her a wealth of legal and operational expertise, as well as a deep commitment to social justice. Katherine’s leadership and insight will be invaluable. I look forward to working closely with her as we continue to provide the best possible support for people facing court alone.”

About Support Through Court
Every year, thousands of people in the UK face court alone. Without help, they must represent themselves while they go through a divorce, seek custody of their children or face eviction from their home. They are forced to navigate a complex legal system without support, often against the professional legal representation of the other party.
We exist to reduce the disadvantage of people facing the civil or family justice system without a lawyer. We provide practical and emotional support to people going through court alone, empowering those who feel they have nowhere else to turn.
