Former President of the Law Society of England and Wales, Dr I. Stephanie Boyce, has become a patron of legal charity Support Through Court.
The charity provides a free service across England and Wales, offering support and guidance before, during, and after court. A team of over 600 volunteers ensure people facing the family and civil courts are not alone, assisting people without representation both practically and emotionally. Volunteers help people with whatever they need – including form filling, research, finding free legal help and providing a calm and listening ear.
Dr. I. Stephanie Boyce says, ‘The demand for access to justice is greater than ever, and Support Through Court‘s mission is clear. It cannot allow vulnerable individuals to face the legal system alone. Instead, the charity’s volunteers empower them with the tools, confidence, and guidance they need to navigate it. I’m thrilled to join the mission of Support Through Court as I know people facing court alone can be faced with unique and complex challenges. I fully support the work the charity is doing to help people overcome barriers and access justice.’
Support Through Court’s CEO, Emma Taylor, says, ‘We are delighted that Dr I. Stephanie Boyce has accepted our invitation to become a Patron. Stephanie brings a huge wealth of experience and passion for the cause. We’re very grateful for her commitment to access to justice and look forward to working together to make a difference to people going through court without representation.’
Dr I. Stephanie Boyce made history by becoming the 177th, the sixth female, the first person of colour and the second in-house solicitor in almost 50 years to become president of the Law Society of England and Wales in March 2021.
